Just went to the doctor for my 6 week postpartum checkup.
All is well and normal.
But I have to laugh every time I’m at her office and see these photos on the ceiling:
I sort of get it when you’re at the dentist and would like something to stare at for 30 minutes, while laying on your back listening to the hygienist ask questions you can’t answer. Especially when I was a kid…I loved looking at puppy dogs and pictures of Big Bird.
Now?
Hunks and kitty cats.
Eh.
Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a little George Clooney or Brad Pitt eye candy (why else have I seen A River Runs Through It 10 times?)
But seriously.
I was thinking.
In an office where most of the clientele are 20-40 year old women, what would we really want to stare at for a while?
What would easily distract from the task at hand?

Home decor, design ideas, creative inspiration, anything from a pinterest HOME board. Torn out pics from Elle Decor, Real Simple, Country Living?
Better yet. How about taping the Target ad up there?!
….since that’s exactly where I went after the appointment….and could NOT say no to these gorgeous serving trays:
I usually don’t buy dishes full price since I know they’ll be on Clearance a month later.
But I have a feeling these will go fast.

In fact, I had the hardest time NOT buying the entire set of plates and cups that go along, and the entire set of turquoise ombre dishes as well. They are SO yummy.
See I’m already distracted.

Those pictures are HILARIOUS!! I agree– I would much rather look at a Target ad! I was just at the gym and a soap opera was on– I really wish they would have HGTV on instead!
That’s why I go to the gym – to watch HGTV because we don’t get it at home!

at my ob-gyn office they have all sorts of pictures of birth before, during and after… a little scary for a first timer (luckily I went there for my second and third)… congrats by the way!! i have a 2 1/2 month old boy here!
I was at the gym and Paula Dean was one. Not what I want to see at the gym. But those guys on the ceiling…. Yummy.

AHHH! This is so true! When I had my teeth whitened before my wedding they had me watch “The Incredible’s”. What they should have put on was HGTV. Nothing is more relaxing than peaking into someone’s beautiful house.
I just saw those dishes at Target today. I almost bought the napkins. You always need napkins, right? Maybe on the next trip.

Bahaha! That’s hilarious. You’re right, it would be MUCH more interesting to have some home inspiration up there. Our dentist actually has tv’s mounted on the ceiling (they give you the remote); it’s an amazing plan.

I caved and bought the whole set of dip bowls. I’m sure something else will be jumping in my cart the next time we visit Target. But those pictures at the Dr’s office? Sort of creepy. And strange.

So funny. When I saw those dishes at Target I actually thought to myself. “I wonder if Dana is designing stuff for Target now, these are so something she would design/love.” He he. I must be reading your blog too much : )
I saw those same dishes at Target. Drooled for a minute and moved on. I mean, I have stuff in storage I can’t use because of space issues, so who am I to go adding to it? Great ideas, though. Much more distracting than magazine pictures from 1980.
I went in for my 6 week appointment yesterday. My doctor has the word “RELAX” posted on the ceiling. Makes me laugh every time, but does not help me to relax!

I was just at Target eyeing those dishes. I was dreaming of making a two-tiered serving tray out of some of them. And the tray is my favorite!

those pictures are hilarious. Personally, I would like to see some Ryan Gosling “Hey Girl” memes while I’m getting my yearly pap. That would make me laugh.
My mom used to tell me that at her ob’s office he had pictures from Playgirl magazine on the ceiling! A couple of years ago my ob replaced the panels over the fluorescent lights in the exam rooms with panels that are actually photos of blue skies with white puffy clouds and cherry blossoms, so with the light that shines through them you feel like you’re laying on the grass under a cherry tree on a beautiful spring day! I love it!
Hahaha!! oh dana, you’re a girl after my own heart. i love love love this post! so much that i’m actually commenting. A target ad? brilliant. though, i’d settle for the hunks too. all i get these next 6 months of pregnancy is fish… yeah, it’s a practice full of men.
ps, yeah the hunks would be awkward while getting examined… yeah, not a good idea. I maybe i do prefer the dusty fish and my “happy place.” haha.

ha! that’s so awesome. our doctor has crazy fish scenes cut into the ceiling tiles. I totally just bought those same dishes from target and all the while, I’m thinking, Dana must be buying these, I know she will. Can’t go wrong scooping those up! Luckily I had a gift card.

I’m actually surprised they’re not selling ad space on the ceilings at doctor’s & dentist’s offices though….
Yeah, those pictures are laughable. Mine has the sweetest bird mobile that is extra dainty and seems to twist and flutter even without air from and vent or fan. I made a note to try to replicate it soon for the boys room. Much easier on the eye than those photos!

My OB/GYN when we lived in CA had a picture on the ceiling with a cute cuddly bear and the words “I hate this part”. It made me laugh every time.

Just have to say thanks too….you and Kathryn made the bow ties and baby dresses for her sister’s (and my brother’s) wedding in Novemeber…do you remember the rusty orange layered skirts and bow ties? A Target ad!!!! LOL!!!! That is hilarious because it’s so true. I was there on Saturday and bought myself those little bowls that were in four different shades of pink. No reason! They were just adorable! I want to buy new melamine dishes every time I go!

I saw these plates and trays a few days before you posted about them! I bought a few of the pink striped ones to hang as decor in our baby girl’s room…due August 4! I actually went back and bought several more for a bigger impact!
