Baby Changing Pad with GUEST: Homemade by Jill

by Dana on February 18, 2010

I first met Jill when the So You Think You’re Crafty competition started. I had to check out my competitors. And when I came to her blog, it was another “where have I been moment?” (I guess I’ve had a few of those lately. You’ll meet another one very soon!)
I fell in love with Jill’s use of Color, her adorable son Oscar, her great tutorials, and her ability to do anything with felt.
Homemade by Jill is a blog you can scroll through over and over again and new projects jump out at you. Her Car Caddy makes me want to drop everything and get sewing:
Her quiet books are spectacular.
I can’t get over the amount of detail she puts into them. Jill must be as patient as she is creatively talented!
And if you really want to be wowed…..you MUST check out her Felt Playhouse. With removable vegetable garden, mailbox, windows, owls, a cool door, well, let’s just say I was floored when I saw this. I still shake my head in amazement at it. You have to check out the link above to see it in full glory.
But what I love best about Jill is that, not only is she extremely talented, she is one of the nicest crafters I’ve ever met. She’s someone who lives by the golden rule and only speaks kind things about others. And we can all use more of that!

Jill is now pregnant with her second child and so, she’s got baby gear on her mind. When I asked her to join our BOY month, I knew she would do justice to whatever she created. And yep. This isn’t your average Changing Pad. It’s totally cool. But I’ll let her tell us more about it……

Jill:
I grew up in a family of eight kids – SIX of them boys. As you can imagine, I was one rough and tumble little girl. I was thrilled to find out that my first baby was going to be a boy, and that is when my crafting world changed. All the pink fabric and ruffles were packed away, and I started thinking about fun things I could make for my son. Out of all the projects I make, the most gratifying are undoubtedly the things I make for Oscar.

So, as the mother of a toddler, the Celebrate the BOY month has been like manna from heaven. I need all the inspiration I can get to keep my sewing machine humming! At the moment though, I have babies on my mind … so I came up with a little project for infant boys and their mamas. In my tutorial, I’ll share how to make a custom baby changing pad. Because from my experience, any bit of luxury goes a long way in those early months of endless diaper changes.

The inside of this baby changing pad is made with laminated fabric, so you can wipe away little messes or toss the whole thing in the washing machine for nasty ones. It folds up compact enough to slip into your diaper bag, and would also be handy as a mobile changing station in your living room. With this fabric in particular, I like that it is all-business on the outside, and a little party on the inside.

You can find Jill’s Baby Changing Pad Tutorial HERE on her site. (it will be up soon)
Thank you Jill for sharing your brilliance!
